As Jacob’s life draws to a close, he blesses Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, giving the younger Ephraim the greater blessing. He then gathers all his sons and speaks prophetic words over each of them, revealing something of their future and the future of the tribes that will come from them. After Jacob dies, Joseph and his brothers bury him in Canaan according to his wishes. Joseph reassures his brothers that although they intended evil against him, God used it for good, preserving many lives. Joseph eventually dies in Egypt, but before his death he expresses confidence that God will visit His people and bring them back to the land He promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
